Natalie Azar

Natalie Azar is an American medical journalist and a clinical associate professor of rheumatology at NYU Langone Medical Center. She is a medical contributor at NBC News and appears on Today for medical advice and reports.^[1]

Early life and education

Azar was born in 1970 in Maryland but spent her childhood in Pennsylvania with her parents and sister. She was inspired to become a doctor as her father was a psychiatrist in their hometown. She received a BA in Psychobiology from Wellesley College in 1992. She completed her MD in 1996 at Cornell University Medical College in New York City and her fellowship in rheumatology at NYU/Hospital for Joint Diseases in 2001.^[2]

Career

Azar was a regular guest on Fox 5 NY as well as The Dr. Oz Show, discussing medical news and was also a contributor on 2 platforms: HealthGuru and Sharecare.^{[citation needed]} She works at NYU Langone Health in Manhattan, New York as a clinical associate professor in the department of rheumatology. She was also previously a member of the NYU school of medicine’s admissions committee and is involved in the admissions for the rheumatology fellowship program. Azar is also a writer.^[3]

Since 2014, Azar has been a medical contributor for NBC News and its affiliated networks and she appears on Today.^[4] In 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the U.S. in early 2020, she became a main source of information for millions of Americans.^[5][6]

Personal life

Azar is married to Michael Hubner, an attorney, whom she met while in medical school. They have two children, and live in New Jersey.^[7]
