Pan Zhanlin

Pan Zhanlin (October 17, 1942, Chinese: 潘占林) is a Chinese diplomat from Qiqihar, Heilongjiang.

Biography

Pan Zhanlin graduated from Heilongjiang University in 1964 and from Beijing Institute of Foreign Languages in 1966, joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in 1967.^[1] He held successive positions in the Translation Office of the Ministry, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Soviet Union, and the Department of the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe of the Ministry. Subsequently served as counselor of the Department of Soviet Union and Europe and later as counselor of the embassy in the Soviet Union in 1990. In July 1992, he was appointed Ambassador of China to Kyrgyzstan;^[2] in May 1995, he assumed the role of ambassador to Ukraine; in June 1998, he became ambassador to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.^[3] During the 1999 Kosovo War, the NATO air force bombed the Chinese Embassy, resulting in injuries to Pan Zhanlin.^[4][5]

In November 2000, he was designated ambassador to Israel.^[6] In November 2003, he resigned from his position as ambassador to Israel.^[7]
