History
Panda Kids was launched on 1 June 2021 in Portugal as a pop-up channel for children aged 6 to 9, taking over the kids animated programming from Biggs, which was refocused on live-action programming for teens and young adults.[2] Panda Kids was also launched in Spain at the same time, as an evening block on Canal Panda, where it rather used Biggs on-air graphics of the time with live-action programming including TV series and reality shows for older children.[3][4]
Panda Kids started as a pop-up channel planned until December 2021, then renewed until June 2022,[5] and was finally established as a permanent channel, as it was successful and allowed the repositioning of Biggs as a teen channel[6][7] and the next year as a young adult channel.[8] Panda Kids was announced to run from 8am to midnight, but it initially started airing from 6am to 1am. It expanded from 6am to 2.30am in July, then to 4am in August, to 4.30am in October, and became 24h on 16 November 2021.
In 2024, the channel expanded its target to pre-teens, adding a few live-action shows and Dragon Ball Super in August (which is not recommended for children under 12).[9]
