Peddi is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language action drama film written and directed by Buchi Babu Sana. The film is presented by Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings under the banner of Vriddhi Cinemas, produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru with Ishan Saksena as the co-producer. Filmed under the working title of RC16, it was officially announced as "Peddi" in March 2025. Ram Charan in the titular role is paired with Jahnavi Kapoor in an ensemble cast featuring Jagapathi Babu, Shiva Rajkumar and Divyenndu. Principal photography commenced in Mysuru on November 22, 2024, filming continued in Hyderabad, Sri Lanka and Pune by November 2025.

Development

In November 2022, where Ram Charan confirmed his collaboration with Buchi Babu Sana for his next film.[1] It was to be produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru's Vriddhi Cinemas and Sukumar Writings, Mythri Movie Makers to be the distributors.[1] The film crew and actors who were playing pivotal characters in the film were announced through individual publicity posters shared through the social media handles of the production house.[2] Accordingly, R. Rathnavelu as the cinematographer[3] whereas Jagapathi Babu and Divyenndu as a part of the film's cast.[4] Vijay Sethupathy declined the role offered, as he preferred to play diverse in subsequent films rather than reprising a father figure again.[5] In January 2024, A. R. Rahman was brought onboard to compose the background score and music to the film.[6] The production house scheduled auditions in Vizianagaram, Salur, Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam to rope in additional actors.[7] Jahnavi Kapoor was announced as the female lead on March 6, 2024.[8] The film was launched under the working title RC16 on March 20, 2024 by Chiranjeevi in Hyderabad. The film was called out as a "rural, emotional and rustic journey" for the audience.[9] Charan underwent physical transformation for his role under fitness coach Shivoham Bhatt.[10] He learnt the Vizianagaram dialect for his role.[11]

Filming

Principal photography commenced in Mysuru on November 22, 2024.[12] The director posted his picture with the film’s script in front of the Chamundeshwari Temple.[12] Aalim Hakim was roped in to design the look for Charan.[13] Kapoor stayed in Hyderabad through December 2024 to prepare for her character in the film.[14] A few scenes were filmed at the Bhoot Bungalow in Hyderabad for 10 days.[15] An action sequence was filmed near Moula Ali through five days in April 2025.[16] In May 2025, production designer Avinash Kolla and his team have built village resembling Vizianagram[17] in the outskirts of Hyderabad, where stunt and dramatic sequences were filmed.[17] The team has recreated the 1980s coastal town with detailed sets and period-specific props.[18] 30% of the filming was completed.[19] By October 2025, the crew filmed a romantic number in Sri Lanka.[20] A dance number choreographed by Jani Master[21] was filmed.[22] 60% of the filming was completed, with the first half edited.[18]

The original score and background music music is composed by A. R. Rahman. He finished composing three tracks for the film by March 2024.[23] The music rights were acquired by T-Series for 35 crore (US$4.1 million).[24]

The first single titled "Chikiri" was released on 7 November 2025 was released in Telugu[25], Tamil[26], Hindi[27] Malayalam[28] and Kannada.[29][30] In a video interview, Sana stated that he wanted Rahman to bring in the energy and soulfulness of "Humma" song.[31] The word "Chikri" in Telugu language is alluded to women in Sana's village which inspired the track.[31] He briefed Rahman that the song was about Peddi (character played Charan), mesmerized by the natural beauty of the character played by Kapoor. In the track, Charan was seen standing on a small hillock overlooking the village.[31]

Upon its release, the song received 46 million views (across all four languages of release[32]) within 24 hours of release, creating an all-time record for Indian cinema.[33]

Release

In March 2025, the title of the film was announced as Peddi.[34] The first official poster was released on April 6, 2025, additionally, one-minute video teaser that introduces Charan in a rugged look, sporting long beard and nose ring.[35] The clip begins with an atmosphere with the crowd cheering. Charan makes an entry, carrying a bat slung over his shoulder while smoking a cigar moving onto the cricket ground. He delivers a shot with this bat, the ball expelled out of the arena.[11]

The film is scheduled to release at theatres on March 27, 2026.[36]

Home media

Netflix has acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights for the film.[37]
