The parish church in the settlement is dedicated to John the Baptist and belongs to the Diocese of Koper.[3]
A hill to the east of Plave (directly across the Soča), now called Prižnica, was the site of the Battle of Hill 383 from June 1915 to May 1917.[4] The Italian and Austrian armies fought over control of the hill, with the Austrians controlling Prižnica until May 14, 1917.[5]
