It is situated between Dadar to the north, Worli to the south and the Arabian Sea to the west. Prabhadevi starts at Sayani Road Junction and ends at Babasaheb Worlikar Chowk.

The area derives its name from the 300-year-old Prabhavati temple located in the locality.[2] Originally a small settlement, it witnessed significant development in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, transforming into an upscale locality. Despite urbanization, it retains its religious importance due to the presence of ancient temples and traditional residential structures.[3]

Landmarks

Prabhadevi is largely a residential area, consisting mostly of newly built apartments and high rises.[4]

  • Siddhivinayak Temple: The Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple is the most significant landmark in Prabhadevi. Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the temple was built in 1801 and has since become one of Mumbai’s most visited religious sites. Devotees from across India, including politicians, Bollywood celebrities, and business magnates, regularly visit the temple to seek blessings. The temple’s six-story structure, adorned with a golden dome and intricately carved interiors, stands as a symbol of faith and devotion.[5][6]

Transportation

Prabhadevi enjoys excellent connectivity through various transportation modes:

  • Railways: Prabhadevi Railway Station on the Western Line serves thousands of daily commuters. Previously known as Elphinstone Road, the station was renamed Prabhadevi in 2018 to honor the area's cultural and religious heritage. The station serves as a crucial transit point for daily commuters, linking the neighborhood to business hubs like Lower Parel and Nariman Point.[7]
  • Roadways: Key roads like Senapati Bapat Marg and Gokhale Road link Prabhadevi to the rest of Mumbai.
  • Public Transport: Mumbai’s BEST buses and taxis provide convenient travel options.
  • Metro: The upcoming Siddhivinayak metro station is expected to improve connectivity in the near future.[8]
