Pratik Sharma

Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, PVSM, AVSM, SM is a serving general officer of the Indian Army. He is currently serving as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command. Before that he was Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy).^[2] He was earlier serving as the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) at IHQ of MoD (Army).^[3]

Early life and education

General Sharma is an alumnus of Uttar Pradesh - Sainik School, Lucknow, National Defence Academy Khadakwasla Pune and Indian Military Academy. He was commissioned into the Madras Regiment in December 1987. He has also attended the Defence Services Staff College, the Higher Defence Management Course at the College of Defence Management and the National Defence College.

Military career

He was commissioned into the 2nd battalion of the Madras Regiment on 19 December 1987 from the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. In a distinguished career spanning over 37 years he has served across vivid terrains and has undertaken many staff and instructional appointments. He has taken part in various operations in home and abroad, which includes UNOCI. On getting promoted to the rank of Brigadier, he commanded 80 Infantry Brigade in Jammu and kashmir.^[4]

As a Major General, he was appointed as GOC 25 Infantry Division and Director General DG Information Warfare. He has served as Director General Military Operations^[5] and Corps Commander II Corps.^[6][7][8][9]

He became General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command in April 2025 replacing Lt. General M. V. Suchindra Kumar.^[10]

The General officer has been awarded with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 2025,^[11] the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Sena Medal.
