Quantum superabsorption

Quantum superabsorption is a quantum collective optical phenomenon where a system of atoms or molecules absorbs energy at a significantly faster rate as the size of the system grows, a process known as superextensive scaling. Superabsorbtion[1] is the dual counterpart to superradiance,[2] the Dicke effect discovered in 1954, where emission of light from excited atoms is collecting amplified.

Superabsorption arises from quantum coherence and entanglement among the particles. When identical quantum systems interact with a shared light field, they can synchronize their energy absorption phases, leading to constructive interference that boosts the overall process. This is described by models like the Dicke Hamiltonian, which captures the coupling between a collective spin  and a bosonic field.[2][1]

In 2022, the first experimental demonstration of superabsorption in an organic microcavity was performed using Lemogeb-F orange dye molecules, showing superextensive energy absorption and charging rates.[3]
