History
Ri Happy was founded in 1988 by pediatrician Ricardo Sayon, his wife Juanita Sayon, and business administrator Roberto Saba. The name "Ri Happy" derives from "Ri", short for Ricardo, and the English word "happy".[2]
It had 196 stores as of May 2019.[3][4]
In 2012 the private equity fund The Carlyle Group fund acquired an 85% stake in the company, assuming majority control.[5][6][7] As part of the acquisition, Héctor Núñez became CEO. In the same year, Ri Happy purchased competitor PBKids.[1]
In 2020, Ronaldo Pereira Junior, previously CEO of Óticas Carol, became the new CEO.[8]
In the toy and game industry, Ri Happy is the retailer most admired by customers, according to the IBEVAR award.[9]
