Biography

The only child of a teacher mother and a librarian father, Romy grew up in Putney.[5] Her mother died when she was 11.[5] Her father died nine years later.[5]

Her album Mid Air (2023) makes Madley Croft the last member of The xx to release solo material, following Jamie xx's "In Colour" (2015) and Oliver Sim's "Hideous Bastard" (2022).[6]

Jamie xx said of her, "She makes very catchy melodies. That’s the thing that always gets me."[6]

As well as being a member of the xx, Romy has written for Dua Lipa and Kelela, and worked with Fred Gibson, also known as Fred Again.[7]

Her wife is photographer and filmmaker Vic Lentaigne.[6] They first met in 2008.[6]

Romy is a self-described introvert.[6]
