Career
Lesser was appointed by Governor Spencer Cox to the Utah House in January 2021 to replace LaWanna Shurtliff, who died in December 2020.[1]
Lesser was a member of the Public Education Appropriations Subcommittee, Retirement and Independent Entities Appropriations Subcommittee, House Health and Human Services Committee, and the House Political Subdivisions Committee. She announced that she would sponsor legislation to remove the sales tax on food in the 2022 legislative session.[2]
In 2022, Lesser won a first full term 52.26-47.74% against Republican Jill Koford, but lost in a rematch in 2024, 50.98-49.02%.[3] She is the most recent Democrat from outside of Salt Lake County to serve in the state legislature.
