Sekolah Menengah Sains Tuanku Syed Putra (English: Syed Putra Science Secondary School; abbreviated SMSTSP; formerly known as Sekolah Menengah Sains Perlis) is a premier boarding school located in Kangar, Perlis, Malaysia. In 2010, the school was awarded the Sekolah Berprestasi Tinggi or High Performance School award, a title awarded to the 20 schools in Malaysia that have met stringent criteria including academic achievement, strength of alumni, international recognition, network and linkages.^[2]

The school specialises in rugby, cricket, soccer, innovation and invention.^[3] The school's performance in the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (2013) was the best in Perlis and ranked fourteenth among the Sekolah Berasrama Penuh with 76.92% students gaining straight A's and GPS rating of 1.0526^[4][5] while Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia was the best in Perlis with 30 students obtaining straight A's.^[6]

History

The school were opened on 1973.^[7][8] In June 1981, the school hosted Kelas Matrikulasi Sains, preparing students for their first year at Universiti Sains Malaysia^[9]

SMS Tuanku Syed Putra Cricket Team

The cricket team of Sekolah Menengah Sains Tuanku Syed Putra (SMS Tuanku Syed Putra), established in 1979, has been a prominent force in school-level cricket in Malaysia, particularly within the state of Perlis and the national Fully Residential Schools (SBP) circuit.

History and Development

Founded in 1979, SMS Tuanku Syed Putra remains the only school in Perlis with a continuously active cricket team since its establishment. This long-standing presence has made the school a key contributor of players to the Perlis state team for the Malaysia School Sports Council (MSSM) Cricket Championships.

The team has benefited significantly from the active involvement of its alumni in coaching and player development. This support has helped the team achieve consistent success, including the formation and rise of a competitive girls’ cricket team.

Major accomplishments of the SMS Tuanku Syed Putra cricket team include:
