Synthesis

SmOCl can be synthesized by heating samarium oxide in a currect of chlorine.^[2]

Physical properties

The compound forms white crystals of the tetragonal system,^[3] space group P4/nmm.^[4]

SmOCl thermally decomposes to form Sm₂O₃.^[4]

Uses

SmOCl is investigated as a photocatalyst for environment remediation.^[5] Also used as a catalyst.^[6]
