The Samsung Galaxy A12, Samsung Galaxy M12 and Samsung Galaxy F12 are entry-level 32-bit Android smartphones manufactured by Samsung Electronics.

Quick facts Brand, Manufacturer ...

The Samsung Galaxy A12 was announced on November 24, 2020 as a successor to the Samsung Galaxy A11.[1]

The Samsung Galaxy M12 is later announced on February 5, 2021 in India as a successor to the Samsung Galaxy M11, while sharing some similarities to the Galaxy A12. However, it sports the Samsung's in-house Exynos 850 SoC with an octa-core CPU and 8nm process instead of the Mediatek Helio P35 SoC in Galaxy A12. It also has a 6000 mAh lithium-polymer battery and is 8.9% thicker and 7.8% heavier than the Galaxy A12. The Indian Samsung Galaxy M12 was later released as Samsung Galaxy F12 in April 5, 2021. A similar Galaxy M12 is released in Europe on April 19, 2021, but with 5000 mAh battery instead of 6000 mAh like the Indian Galaxy M12 does.

The Samsung Galaxy A12 was not available in the United States until April 2021.[2][3] The model of the Samsung Galaxy A12 that was made available in the U.S. had 3 GB RAM and a 16 MP main camera, rather than the 48 MP camera found in newer models.

On August 9, 2021, a new variant of the phone called the Samsung Galaxy A12 Nacho was announced. This variant of the phone is powered by Samsung's in-house Exynos 850[4] SoC with an octa-core CPU and 8nm process instead of the previous MediaTek Helio P35 SoC, in addition to the operating system being updated to Android 11.[5][6] Aside from these differences, both the Galaxy A12 and Galaxy A12 Nacho have very similar specifications, where the Nacho variant supports both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Wi-Fi protocols, whilst the prior model supported only 2.4Ghz.[7]

Processor

The Galaxy A12 is powered by MediaTek MT6765 Helio P35 System-on-Chip (SoC), which is built on a 12-nanometer (nm) process technology. This SoC features an octa-core CPU that is divided into two clusters- a high-performance cluster and a power-efficient cluster. The high-performance cluster comprises four Cortex-A53 cores that are clocked at 2.3 GHz, while the power-efficient cluster also consists of four Cortex-A53 cores that are clocked at 1.8 GHz. The Mediatek MT6765 Helio P35 SoC also comes with an integrated IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU that operates at 680MHz.[9]

The Galaxy M12 is powered by the Samsung Exynos 850 SoC, which is built on a 8-nanometer process technology. This SoC features an octa-core CPU which has eight Cortex-A55 cores that are clocked at 2 GHz. The Exynos 850 also comes with an integrated ARM Mali-G53 GPU that operates at 1001MHz. This Exynos 850 SoC is slightly faster and provides 8% more battery life than the MediaTek Helio P35. The Exynos 850 SoC is later integrated into the Galaxy F12 and the later Galaxy A12 Nacho model.

Cameras

The Samsung Galaxy A12 features 4 rear-facing cameras housed in a black rounded square with a separate LED flash. The main camera is a 48 MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture, 26mm focal length and autofocus. The ultrawide camera is an 8 MP unit with f/2.2 aperture and 123° field of view (FoV). Both the macro camera (for close-up shots) and the depth sensor (for background blur) are 2 MP sensors with f/2.4 aperture. The front-facing camera has an 8 MP resolution. Video can be recorded at up to 1080p at 30 fps on the main, ultrawide and selfie cameras.[9] The North American variant of Galaxy A12 has a 16 MP main camera sensor instead of 48 MP found in the original.

The Samsung Galaxy M12 and Samsung Galaxy F12 features the same camera setup as the Galaxy A12. However, the Samsung Galaxy M12 and F12 features phase-detection autofocus on the main camera sensor, and the main camera sensor has 0.8μm focal length.
