Rabbi Simcha Hagadol HaKohen Rappaport (Hebrew: שמחה הכהן ראפאפארט; b. 1650 - August 4, 1718) was a 17th-century rabbi and progenitor of the Rappaport rabbinic dynasties. Born in about 1650 in Lwów L'viv, Poland, (now Ukraine). His father, Rabbi Nachman Lipshitz (Rappaport) was a Rabbi in the city of Belz, Kremnitz, Dubno, and Av Beit Din in Lublin. He was a direct descendant of Ezra HSofer (From Father to son), He was also a descendant of the MaHaRam through his mother. In his early years Rappaport studied in L'viv. In 1688 he was appointed the Chief Rabbi of Horodna. After the passing of the Chacham Tzvi he was appointed to be Av Bris Din of Levov, although he died on the way there on August 4, 1718 in Szczebrzeszyn.[1] The Soloveitchik dynasty says Rappaport is a notable ancestor and progenitor.[2]
