Soil moisture levels
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Remove ads
Levels of soil moisture influence plant development.

Moisture can take the form of hygroscopic water that is bonded to the soil particles, capillary water held by forces in the soil's pores and gravitational water (also known as superfluous water) that drains over time. Gravitational water flows through larger pores, or macropores, in the soil and gets drained.[1]
Gravitational water is only temporarily available to plants, for between 24 to 48 hours.[2]
