The church was founded in January 1954, with the first service held at Garfield Elementary School. Thirty-three residents and representatives from the sponsoring church, Trinity Methodist Church in Alexandria, attended the inaugural gathering.[2]

In 1974, the original building was remodeled, and air conditioning was installed. In 2000, the entire facility was modernized, including a full interior and exterior renovation and restoration of the pipe organ.[3]
