History

Thumb
Xinning Railway Station

In 1906, under the oversight of Chin Gee Hee, the Sun Ning Railway Company began building a railway to connect Xinning County to its northern and southern neighbors.[1] On March 1, 1909, the Xinning Railway Station (Chinese: 新宁铁路总站) was opened in what is now the subdistrict.[1] The rail line, which was completed in 1920, drew attention both domestically and internationally for being the first Chinese-funded and Chinese-constructed railroad in the world.[1]

In 1938, the railway was ordered by the Nationalist Government to be destroyed to prevent the advance of invading Japanese troops.[1] The station would subsequently serve as a bus station.[1]

The new Taishan Railway Station was constructed in 2018 within the village of Nankeng, Taicheng Subdistrict.[1] The station lies upon the Shenzhen–Zhanjiang high-speed railway.[citation needed]
