Tetramethylammonium ozonide

Tetramethylammonium ozonide is an oxygen rich compound containing a tetramethylammonium cation (N(CH₃)₄) and an ozonide anion (O₃⁻). The compound is a free radical with one unpaired electron.^[1]

It can be created through the metathesis reaction with caesium ozonide (CsO₃) in a liquid ammonia solution.^[2]

CsO₃ + [(CH₃)₄N][O₂] → CsO₂ + [(CH₃)₄N][O₃]

Tetramethylammonium ozonide was found to be stable; it forms into transparent red crystals, and only decomposes above 75 °C.^[3]
