Tetramethylammonium ozonide is an oxygen rich compound containing a tetramethylammonium cation (N(CH3)4) and an ozonide anion (O3−). The compound is a free radical with one unpaired electron.[1]
It can be created through the metathesis reaction with caesium ozonide (CsO3) in a liquid ammonia solution.[2]
- CsO3 + [(CH3)4N][O2] → CsO2 + [(CH3)4N][O3]
Tetramethylammonium ozonide was found to be stable; it forms into transparent red crystals, and only decomposes above 75 °C.[3]
