The Logic is an independent, subscription-based news publication, founded in 2018 by CEO and editor-in-chief David Skok. As one of Canada’s leading sources of business and technology news, it provides in-depth reporting on the businesses, people and policies driving transformational change in Canada.

The Logic is headquartered in Toronto and has bureaus in Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa and Montreal. In addition to The Logic’s award-winning original journalism, it offers its subscribers a suite of newsletters and a slate of in-person and virtual events. The Logic’s newsroom and business operations are independent, adhering to strict editorial independence guidelines.

Before founding The Logic in 2018, David Skok was the associate editor and head of editorial strategy at the Toronto Star. He has also served as the managing editor and vice-president of digital for the Boston Globe, and as the co-creator and director of digital for Global News. David is a leading thinker on digital transformation who co-published a seminal paper on disruption in the news industry with the Harvard Business School professor Clayton M. Christensen.

The Logic’s website and flagship newsletter, The Logic Briefing, were officially launched on June 12, 2018. The Logic reported extensively on business in Canada, most notably breaking exclusive news on Sidewalk Labs and their Waterfront Toronto project.

In May 2019, Postmedia acquired a minor stake in The Logic, as part of a C$1.8 million seed round.

In 2023, The Logic launched its first mobile app that aligned with their goal of driving subscriptions.

In June 2024, The Logic closed a C$4 million fundraising round led by FT Ventures. It marked the first Canadian investment by FT Ventures, the corporate venture arm of the Financial Times (FT) Group. As part of the investment, The Logic was expected to work with FT Strategies, the FT’s media consultancy arm.
