The following is a timeline of the history of the city of Manchester, New Hampshire, United States.
Prior to 19th century
- 1722 - John Goffe settles in Old Harry's Town, in the British Province of New Hampshire.[1]
- 1723 - A cabin was built and gradually a small settlement grew up.[1]
- 1727 - Tyngstown (or “Tyng’s Township”) established.
- 1736 - The first sawmill was erected. [1]
- 1751 - Tyngstown rechartered as "Derryfield."[2][1]
- 1788 - Province becomes part of the State of New Hampshire.
- 1796 - Derryfield Social Library founded.[3]

- 1807 - Canal built by Samuel Blodgett.
- 1810
- Derryfield renamed "Manchester."[2][1]
- Amoskeag Cotton & Woolen Manufacturing Company incorporated.
- 1823 - Population: 761.[4]

- Sacred Heart Hospital founded.
