Upton Stout

Upton Stout III (born January 9, 2002) is an American professional football cornerback for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the North Texas Mean Green and Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. He was selected by the 49ers in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft.

Early life

Stout is from Houston, Texas.^[1] He attended North Shore Senior High School in Houston, where he played cornerback and helped the football team win the Texas 6A-1 state championship in 2018 and 2019.^[2] A three-star recruit, he committed to play college football for the North Texas Mean Green.^[2]

College career

Stout became a starter midseason during his freshman year at North Texas in 2020, posting 11 tackles in his first start.^[3] He appeared in eight games during the 2020 season and posted 35 total tackles.^[2] He then appeared in four games in the 2021 season, totaling six tackles, before redshirting and entering the NCAA transfer portal, eventually committing to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.^[4]

Stout recorded an interception returned for a touchdown in his Western Kentucky debut and ended up starting 11 games during the 2022 season, posting 44 tackles, sixth on the team, and four interceptions, tied for first on the team.^[5][6] He missed five games due to injury in 2023, ending the season with 29 tackles, eight pass breakups and an interception returned for a touchdown.^[7] He entered the NCAA transfer portal after the season but later chose to return to the Hilltoppers for the 2024 season.^[8] In 2024, he was named first-team All-Conference USA after totaling 52 tackles, 7.5 tackles-for-loss (TFLs), an interception and a sack.^[9] He declared for the 2025 NFL draft and was invited to the Senior Bowl.^[9]
