Edirmannasingham was the son of Manapillai Visuvasingam from Inuvil in northern Ceylon.^[1] He was appointed to the Legislative Council of Ceylon in 1846 as the unofficial member representing Tamils, replacing Simon Casie Chetty.^[1]
