Perspective
VCCircle was founded in 2005 by Sahad P.V. as a blog focused on venture capital and private equity. The site expanded its coverage of Indian business to a larger audience[5] of entrepreneurs, corporate executives, investors, legal professionals and bankers.[6] VCCircle offers insight[7] and opinion[8] on various business happenings. Since its acquisition by HT Media Limited, VCCircle started working alongside Mint, the second largest business daily in India. The company routinely publishes exclusive articles on the venture capital and the private equity community on its website. Some of these articles are also published in the Mint.
In May 2012, VCCircle.com introduced a paywall.[9] It is the first business news website in India to introduce a paywall. VCCircle announced an award in 2012 which recognised the best performing PE/VC-backed companies in various sectors and also law firms and investment banks who have done the maximum number of deals in a given year.[10]
The second edition of awards was held in February 2013.[11] VCCircle Network got the DEMO conference to start an event in India. The event was held on 20 and 21 March 2013 in Bengaluru.[12]
The third edition of VCCircle Awards[13] was held in February 2014.
The fourth edition of VCCircle Awards[14] was held in February 2015. The VCCircle Network was acquired by News Corp in March 2015.[15] In 2020, HT Media took over as the owner of VCCircle from News Corp.[3]
VCCircle operates on a freemium model. While some articles remain freely accessible, premium reports, sectoral deep dives, deal databases, and investigative stories are available through subscription plans. These include:
- Premium Plan – Offers limited access to in-depth articles and features.
- Pro Plan – Designed for institutional users and investors, with full access to deal data, analytics, archives, and curated reports.
- Pro Lite Plan – A mid-tier plan launched to cater to professionals seeking more insights than the Premium tier without the full Pro access.
These subscription offerings make VCCircle one of the few Indian business media platforms operating behind a paywall, targeting a niche audience of investors, CXOs, and decision-makers.
Events, Trainings, and VCCEdge
In addition to its editorial content, VCCircle has established a strong presence through its events and training verticals, which serve as key platforms for knowledge sharing and networking across the investment and entrepreneurial ecosystems.
- VCCircle Events: These are curated conferences and summits held across major Indian cities, bringing together venture capitalists, private equity firms, startup founders, corporate strategists, and policy-makers. The events cover themes like healthcare investments, consumer and retail innovation, fintech, and exit strategies. Notable annual conferences include the Limited Partners Summit, Family Offices Summit and The Pitch.
- VCCircle Training: The brand also runs domain-specific training programs tailored for professionals in investment, law, finance, and entrepreneurship. These workshops and masterclasses are conducted by industry veterans and subject-matter experts, focusing on areas like term sheet negotiations, M&A structuring, and due diligence practices.
- VCCEdge: Launched as VCCircle’s proprietary SaaS product, VCCEdge is a data intelligence platform offering detailed information on over 200,000 private company financials, M&A deals, venture capital, and private equity transactions in India. The platform provides access to market maps, deal analytics, executive profiles, sector dashboards, and historical trends, making it one of the most robust databases for India-focused private market intelligence.
Together, these extensions of the VCCircle brand have strengthened its role not just as a media outlet, but as a holistic ecosystem for capital market intelligence and professional development.
