Vishwakarma Government Engineering College

'Vishwakarma Government Engineering College (VGEC) is a government engineering college located at Chandkheda. The college was founded in 1994.^[1][2] It is affiliated with Gujarat Technological University.

Location

The college is located on the Koba-Visat highway between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.^[3]. MTS and BRTS services connect college to parts of Ahmedabad. Direct buses to the college are available from several locations. Kalupur Central Railway Station, Sabarmati Railway Station, and Maninagar Railway Station are connected to the college via AMTS and BRTS. The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport is 12 km from the college.

History

VGEC was started with objective to give quality engineering education under government ^[1]. College is expanded its academic program, infrastructure and research to become one of most important government college in Gujarat.

Student Life

VGEC has several student clubs participating in robotics, coding, research, entrepreneurship, and cultural activities.^[8][9]

Campus

Hostel

College offers hostel facilities for students, ensuring comfortable campus. The boys’ hostel has capacity of 540 students, while the girls’ hostel can accommodate 180 students. Both hostel have dedicated mess.

Newspapers and magazines are kept in the hostel library. Students have TV room, badminton room, and gymnasium. Medical services from the University Health Centre are extended to all hostel students.

Research and Funded Projects

• The institute undertakes research across Chemical, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, and Information Technology engineering disciplines.
• Multiple projects are funded by national and state agencies including the Science and Engineering Research Board, ISRO, GUJCOST, the Climate Change Department of Gujarat, the Gujarat Environment Management Institute, and the Commissionerate of Technical Education.

VGEC students have been placed in a wide range of reputed companies across software, core engineering, energy, and analytics sectors. Major recruiters include Bacancy Technology (20 students), Torrent Power Ltd (16 students), einfochips Ltd (14 students), Simform Solutions (14 students), and eSparkBiz Technologies / Newen System Pvt. Ltd. (10 students each). Several companies such as UPL Ltd, Amrut Energy, Cybercom Creation, Webs Optimization, and 'ntellytics Solutions also hired multiple students, reflecting strong industry engagement and diverse career opportunities for graduates. ^[14]
