WONN (1230 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station broadcasting an adult hits radio format. Licensed to Lakeland, Florida, the station is owned by Hall Communications, Inc.[2]
The transmitter is atop the office building where WONN has its studios and offices, on Lime Street at Sikes Boulevard in Lakeland.[3] WONN is powered at 1,000 watts, day and night, using a non-directional antenna. Programming is also heard on two 250-watt FM translators: W296CS at 107.1 MHz in Lakeland and W240DB at 95.9 MHz in the Auburndale-Winter Haven area.[4][5]
WONN's slogan is "Playin' It All!" and features a format named "MAX" playing both hit songs and forgotten favorites of new wave, pop, rock, and dance hits from the 1970s to the 2010s. The station's schedule is automated, as is typical of most adult hits stations. While the station uses its full name in its imaging, brief listener sweepers refer to the station not only by its name and slogan, but also as a person's name ("Hey MAX!", "Okay MAX...", "Wow me, MAX!").

The station first signed on the air on September 15, 1949 .[6] From the late-1950s and into the mid-1970s, the station aired a Top 40 music format under the branding "The Best One", and is an original affiliate of the NBC Radio Network. In 1981, current owner Hall Communications bought WONN, along with FM sister station 97.5 WPCV in Winter Haven, for $2 million.
On August 5, 2024, WONN changed its format to sports radio from "America's Best Music" - soft oldies and adult standards. It uses programming from Fox Sports Radio and calls itself "Fox Sports Radio Lakeland." It is now the only sports talk station in the Lakeland-Winter Haven radio market.[7]
On September 27, 2025, it was announced that sister station WWRZ will move its frequency and Adult Hits format from 98.3 FM to 1230 AM, alongside its translator 107.1 W296CS and a new 95.9 FM translator W240DB, on October 1, 2025.[8] On October 1, the station dropped its Fox Sports Radio programming and sports format altogether and flipped to Adult Hits, which used the "Max" branding and format from WWRZ, leaving Tampa's WDAE the only Fox Sports Radio station in the area. The first song played after its flip is "I Wanna Be Rich" by Calloway.
