Perspective
McArthurGlen Group specialises in developing, owning, and managing factory outlet shopping centres across Europe and Canada. Essentially, they create large-scale retail environments where luxury, designer, and premium brands can sell their products at discounted prices.
Following a $180 million share issue in 1993 it became McArthur/Glen Group.[3] McArthurGlen UK Ltd was also set up in 1993, based in London and managing designer shopping outlets across North America, the United Kingdom, and Western Europe.[4]
While the company was founded by J.W. "Joey" Kaempfer in 1993 and remains privately-owned and founder-led, there's a significant joint venture with a major publicly traded real estate entity
Since 2013, McArthurGlen has been a joint venture between the Kaempfer Partners and Simon Property Group. In essence, while the overarching McArthurGlen Group is privately held and founder-led, its expansion and specific projects often involve partnerships with significant institutional investors and other real estate developers, and its strategic alliance with a publicly traded company like Simon Property Group provides a link to public markets.
On July 9, 2015, McArthurGlen opened its first outlet in North America at Vancouver Airport.[5]
