According to the "One City, Five Zones" plan, the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone is composed of three major parts: the core area, the main area, and the driving and radiating area. On 7 March 2013, the State Council officially approved the *Development Plan for the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone (2013–2025)*, making it the first airport economy zone in the country to be elevated to a national-level strategy. By 2018,[3] it was listed as a separate administrative district of Zhengzhou on the official website of the National Bureau of Statistics of China.

It contains Foxconn Zhengzou Technology park, the largest producer of iPhone for Apple Inc.
