From Classical Syriac, from Biblical Hebrew בַּעַל זְבוּב (baʿal zəḇûḇ), a partial calque of Akkadian [script needed] (bēl dabābi, Lord of the speech). Doublet of ܒܥܸܠܕܒ݂ܵܒ݂ܵܐ (bˁildḇāḇā, enemy, foe).
