Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Aryan *sambandʰás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sambʰandʰás. Equivalent to सम्- (sam-, together) + बन्ध (bandha, binding, joining). Cognate with Sogdian 𐼰𐼻𐼱𐼰𐼻𐽂 (ʾnβʾnt, joined, attachment), Ossetian ӕмбонд (æmbond, fence), Old Norse samband n (connection).
