Etymology

Derived from Sanskrit *से (*se), from (sa, third person singular pronoun) + (i, demonstrative), from Proto-Indo-European * and *h₁i, respectively. Cognate with Assamese সি (xi), Bengali সে (śe), Odia ସେ (se) and Maithili 𑂮𑂵 (se).
