Suffix

-dos

1. (verb-forming suffix) A frequentative suffix added to a monosyllabic verb to form a new verb to express the frequent repetition of an action.

Usage notes

• (verb-forming suffix) Variants:

  -dos is added to back-vowel verbs

  ‎vág (“to cut”) + ‎-dos → ‎vagdos (“to cut up, chop”)

  -des is added to unrounded front-vowel verbs

  ‎ver (“to beat”) + ‎-des → ‎verdes (“to flutter”)

  -dös is added to rounded front-vowel verbs

  ‎lök (“to push once”) + ‎-dös → ‎lökdös (“to jostle, to push aside repetitively”)
