From beamen (to beam; to project) + -er; the former from English beam (to transmit matter or information via a high-tech wireless mechanism). Inasmuch as the English verb does not share the figurative sense “to project”, the German is a pseudo-anglicism. Compare the same in Dutch beamer (video projector).
