From Middle High German Dietmerß (15th century), Middle Low German Dithmerschen (also Ditmerschen, Detmerschen) (15th century), from Old Saxon thiudisk + mersk, also reflected in the Medieval Latin name Tedmarsgo (“marsh of the (Germanic) people”).
