1. (historical) Collectively, the twelve member states of the EU from its inception in 1993 to 1994, consisting of Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom.
