Etymology 1
From Latin Gaza, from Ancient Greek Γάζα (Gáza), from Biblical Hebrew עַזָּה (ʿazzā ~ ġazzā). The Greek form of the Septuagint reflects the older Hebrew pronunciation with /ɣ~ʁ/, a phoneme that later merged with /ʕ/.
