     Perusia has the epithet ‘Augusta’ in two inscriptions, and another refers to ‘Perusia Restituta’, which should most naturally restoration after the destruction of 40.¹²⁶ This implies that the city enjoyed Augustus' favour, as Saddington notes;¹²⁷ but that is no reason for largely rejecting the accounts of Imperator Caesar's punishment of Perusia in 40, excepting the fantasy of a massacre of the curial class.
