German

Etymology

Learned borrowing from Latin status. Doublet of Staat and Etat.

Pronunciation

Noun

Status m (strong, genitive Status, plural Status or Statusse or (nonstandard) Stati)

  1. status (standing)
  2. status (notification in social networking)
  3. state (situation)

Usage notes

  • The traditional plural is Status (rarely spelled Statūs), but Statusse is more common in speech and also readily attestable in edited texts. In the context of social networking, Statusse seems even strongly predominant.
