- (Standard Indonesian) IPA(key): /ˌtimor ˈtimur/ [ˌt̪i.mɔr ˈt̪i.mʊr]
- Syllabification: Ti‧mor Ti‧mur
Proper noun
- a former de facto province of Indonesia, whose territory corresponded to the previous Portuguese Timor and to the presently independent country of East Timor
Usage notes
Indonesian clearly distinguishes the names for the sovereign state of East Timor or Timor-Leste and the former Indonesian province of East Timor, the former is known as Timor Leste. Unlike English, these terms are not interchangeable in Indonesian.
