      I gathered my courage and asked where Varvara's name was made of.
      "What do you mean what is it made of?"
      "I mean, which name is it a corruption of?"
      "It's not a corruption of anything", Varvara said and looked at me with loathing.
      Of course not. I only realized later that it's a Slavic variant of Barbara. How had I not understood that? I blamed Himmeli, Lillukka, auntie Maippi and Kersty from marketing into bringing the idea of corrupted names into my mind.
