Abel + -sk, derived from the last name of Norwegian mathematician Niels Henrik Abel, who made pioneering contributions in a variety of fields. Last part is the prefix -sk (“-ish”), from Old Norse -skr, from Proto-Germanic *-iskaz, from Proto-Indo-European *-iskos.
