be- + darra, from Low German or Dutch bedaren, used in Swedish since 1765.

bedarra (present bedarrar, preterite bedarrade, supine bedarrat, imperative bedarra)

  1. to calm, to fade, to weaken, to blow over (of a storm or strong wind)
    När stormen bedarrat ger jag mig också av.
    When the storm has blown over, I too shall leave.
