Inherited from Middle French bramer, from Old Occitan bramar, from Gothic *𐌱𐍂𐌰𐌼𐌼𐍉𐌽 (*brammōn), *𐌱𐍂𐌰𐌼𐌾𐌰𐌽 (*bramjan), from Proto-Germanic *bramjaną (to bellow, roar), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰrem-. Compare Middle Low German brammen (to roar), Dutch brommen (to bellow), English brim. More at brim.
