Etymology 2
Either from Latin calx, calcem, or more likely from caltha, through a Vulgar Latin root *calthea > earlier Romanian *calțe. The Latin derives from Ancient Greek κάλαθος (kálathos), καλθε (kalthe, “yellow flower”).
