- Used in the greeting selamat datang (“welcome”).

- Kapan datang Jakarta? - When do [you] come [to] Jakarta?

Etymology
Inherited from Classical Malay داتڠ (datang), from Proto-Malayic *datəŋ, Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *datəŋ. Compare with Tagalog dating (“arrival”) & Tausug datung (“to arrive”).
First attested in the Kedukan Bukit inscription, 683 AD, as Old Malay [script needed] (dātaṃ).
