From data + -or. Proposed in 1967 by professor Börje Langefors, as a parallel to doktor and traktor, based on data. Earlier Swedish words for computer were kalkylator, matematikmaskin, elektronhjärna and datamaskin, the latter often colloquially abbreviated to data.
