Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish طوروق (doruk), from Proto-Turkic *tog- (to rise), a causative suffix, and *-g (deverbal suffix). Nişanyan derives the term from Proto-Turkish. Çağbayır considers the derivation uncertain.
