Inherited from Ottoman Turkish طولون (tulun, temple), from Proto-Turkic *tuluŋ (temple; braid or plait of hair). Cognate with Bashkir толом (tolom), Kazakh тұлым (tūlym), Khakas тулунъ (tulunʺ), Kyrgyz тулум (tulum), Shor тулуң (tuluñ) and Southern Altai тулуҥ (tuluŋ).
