Ido
Etymology
Borrowed from German erst. Decision no. 599, Progreso IV.
Pronunciation
Adverb
erste
- not before, not until (then), only (not earlier than), for the first time (of time)
- Me venos erste morge.
- I won't come before tomorrow.
- La proxima numero di ca jurnalo aparos erste komence di agosto.
- The next edition of the newspaper will not come until the beginning of August.
- Ja en la printempo me suspektis il, ma erste dum lua somervakanco me recevis certeso.
- I already suspected him in back in spring, but I only became sure during summer vacation.
- Il remarkis l'eroro erste ye la sequanta matino.
- He noticed the error for the first time the following morning.
Usage notes
*ne ante cannot be used in place of erste, since *ne ante would be a preposition just like ante, not an adverb. "Me venos *ne ante morge" would be totally gibberish since the *ne ante would effect the adverb (morge), not the verb (venos). Instead, one could use "Me venos morge, ne ante", which would be correct.
