etchplain (plural etchplains)

  1. (geology, geomorphology) A plain (area of land, not necessarily flat) where bedrock has been subject to extensive etching or subsurface weathering.
    • 1969, Michael Frederic Thomas, Environment and land use in Africa, page 127:
      Lateritized etchplains are surfaces of low relief underlain by extensive primary laterite deposits.
